If you've been out to our classes at Lenny Boy Brewing or Cabarrus Brewing Co. lately, you may have noticed a few new faces.
We just hired Work For Your Beer's inaugural class of interns for Summer 2017, and they've been kicking butt at event management, content creation, and community involvement since Day One!
We wanted to take some time to introduce you to these new members of the Work For Your Beer team one by one. We'll start with Nicole.
Name: Nicole Buckenham
School: University of North Carolina at Charlotte
I heard about Work For Your Beer from some friends of mine who have attended various fitness beer events in Charlotte, and decided to do some research for myself after seeing their posts on social media.
What made you want to apply for an internship with Work For Your Beer?
I am interested in pursuing a career in marketing and event planning. This was the perfect mixture of both, and allows me to partake in activities at some of my favorite spots in the Charlotte area.
What made you excited to accept this internship offer?
I wanted to get more involved in the beverage industry in Charlotte. I was excited to get to go to some breweries and bottle shops around town I had never been to, and get to meet everyone involved with them as well!
What have you learned since starting your internship?
So far, I have learned how to capture the voice of a company through writing. I learned how to use my writing skills to write for the Work For Your Beer blog and combine it with the company’s voice in order to capture the right audience. I have learned what kind of content beer lovers want to read, and I have been coming up with blog post ideas I think they would enjoy!
What has been the most exciting part of your internship so far?
Getting to watch and actually join in on the fitness classes. I get to see how happy others are when they come to the events and how much they truly love this community. It was pretty fun getting to dance at Twerk For Your Beer, too!
What has been the most challenging part of your internship so far?
Determining why there are not as many guys as there are females at these events. I am trying to figure out a way to make the classes as appealing to them as it is for women.
What is your favorite thing about being part of the Work For Your Beer team?
Watching this company grow! Charlotte's beer fitness community is growing every day, and it’s a great feeling to know I am a part of the expansion. There are new people that come to the classes each time, and I know they will keep coming.
What is the coolest thing that you’re working on right now?
Writing for the Work For Your Beer blog. I love to write, and currently write for my university’s newspaper. I am excited I get to write for something other than that, and that it is actually posted online for others to read!
What are you looking forward to in terms of the rest of your time with Work For Your Beer?
Growing the attendance at beer fitness events. I think it would be a big accomplishment on my part if I can think of a marketing strategy to gain new beer fitness lovers, and actually see the class numbers grow.
What fitness activities do you personally like to take part in?
I personally am a big runner. I have a gym membership, and when I go to the gym, I just spend forever on the treadmill running to my favorite songs.
What is your favorite beer in Charlotte?
Sugar Creek Raspberry White Ale.
