Beer of the Week: Legion Brewing, "Why So Cereal?"
Feb 09, 2018
Legion Brewing debuted its Cinnamon Toast Crunch inspired brew "Why So Cereal?" last Saturday, Feb. 3 at Queen City Brewers Festival 2018.
This unique, cereal-infused beer actually came about as a collaboration with the folks at CharlotteFive.
First, CharlotteFive asked its readers what cereal they'd want to taste in a Legion brew. Once Cinnamon Toast Crunch was declared the winner, CharlotteFive readers were asked to submit name suggestions for the beer itself. After reviewing all of the submissions, the Legion brew team announced the winning name ("Why So Cereal?") and awarded two tickets to QCBF 2018 to Dave McClure for submitting the suggestion.
Read on to learn more about our local beer of the week, the brewery it came from, and the fitness activities they've got to offer Charlotte's active beer-lovers.
The Beer: "Why So Cereal?"
This Cinnamon Toast Crunch blonde ale tastes just like your inner 8-year-old dreamed it would. Brewed with lactose and 400 pounds of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, the 5.9% blonde ale is bursting with flavors of milk, cinnamon, and sugar. It's the ideal beer to sip with brunch at Legion on Sundays from 10 AM - 2 PM... so, either before or after Namastay at Legion yoga on Sundays at 12:30 PM!
The Brewery: Legion Brewing
Legion Brewing was the first brewery to set up camp in Plaza Midwood two years ago, and it will soon be the first brewery to open in SouthPark! Legion's tagline is "Friends and Beer," and as a space, it's set up perfectly to enjoy both of those things.
Before you walk through the front doors of the brewery, you'll notice ample patio space set up with picnic tables, benches, umbrellas, and even a fire pit so that you can enjoy your brews in the great outdoors. Inside, you'll find a cozy taproom with 20 beer taps, as well as cider, wine, and kombucha to choose from. Through the double doors at the back of the taproom, you can also check out the mezzanine, where you'll overlook the production facility where the brewers are hard at work creating Charlotte favorites like Juicy Jay and Carolina Sparkle Party.
The Beer Fitness Activities: The Legion-dary Run & Namastay at Legion
On Thursdays at 6:30 PM, you can join the free Legion-dary Run for a 4.4 mile route through Plaza Midwood, then stick around for a beer or two with the rest of the runners.
If yoga is more your speed, you can stop by on Sundays at 12:30 PM for Namastay at Legion, where $7 gets you the class and a beer. This class is taught by Luis, a bartender at Legion and a yoga instructor at Yoga One, Core Power Yoga, and Charlotte Yoga. It's an all-levels flow, so whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, it will work for you! Luis offer modifications to increase or decrease the difficulty of a pose to fit your needs.
