Name: Brittany Canaski
Occupation: Manager of Brand and Marketing Strategy at Daymon
Neighborhood in Charlotte: Plaza Midwood
What made you want to be a part of the Work For Your Beer community? When I first found out about WFYB, I was still new to Charlotte and looking for a way to meet new people. I love beer and working out, but I didn't want to pay for a gym membership, so brewery yoga classes were the perfect fit for me!
What made you excited to accept the Director of Partnerships position? I had been helping with WFYB unofficially for a few months, and I was consistently impressed by Mel & Alicia's drive, commitment, and vision to grow Charlotte's community of active beer-lovers. I'm genuinely passionate about the WFYB community, so I knew it would be an exciting new challenge for me to use that passion to help a local startup and community grow.
What does the Director of Partnerships position entail? Essentially I'm responsible for managing relationships with our partners, primarily local businesses in Charlotte who appeal to our audience of active, beer-loving Charlotteans. Our partners help us connect our incredible followers with relevant events, activities, and businesses in the area. So, my responsibilities include creating partnership proposals, managing payments, scheduling services, and continually looking for new opportunities.
What have you learned since starting this position? I've learned that the small business community in Charlotte is really thriving! Everyone is so positive, strong, and passionate. By partnering with other small businesses, we are really able to help build each other up. I've also learned that the people of Charlotte really love their beer fitness!
What has been the most exciting thing that you've done in this position so far? I've met so many amazing people in the community that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet without WFYB.
What has been the most challenging part of your position so far? At first, it was hard to get in a rhythm of setting time aside each week to sit down and focus solely on WFYB when I also have a full time job. After plenty of trial and error, I'm now creating goals for myself, and I use my Google Calendar for all areas of my life religiously.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of the Work For Your Beer team? My favorite thing is when I explain what WFYB is to someone for the first time and they are instantly excited and want to hear more. It is so rewarding to connect someone in the community to something that could turn into their new favorite hobby or how they meet their future best friend.
What is the coolest thing that you are working on right now? I've been working with the owner of a new business coming to Plaza Midwood on some really fun and unique offerings for our audience. Stay tuned!
What is your biggest goal for Work For Your Beer? For WFYB to be known as a trusted partner in every community we are a part of.
What fitness activities do you personally take part in? I do Camp Gladiator classes a few mornings each week then add in yoga and running whenever I can find time!
What is your favorite local beer in Charlotte? Carolina Sparkle Party at Legion Brewing
